Home Stylish Homewares

Introducing the inaugural homewares collection from Paul Smith, a selection of blankets, cushions and towels that speaks to the timelessness of the stripe.

It’s hardly a secret that our homes are incredibly important to us. After all, we’ve known for thousands of years that “home is where the heart is” (a phrase coined by Roman Pliny the Elder) and shelter counts as one of our key basic needs (alongside food and clothing). But after repeated lockdowns the last few years, when our homes started serving as both our offices and social spaces, too, they are perhaps even more so.

A recent study by the GoodHome Report, for example, indicates that 73% of people who feel happy in their homes are happy in general and our homes account for 15% of our overall happiness (a much bigger percentage than, say, how much we earn, which clocked in at 6%).

It feels fitting, then, that Paul Smith’s new homewares collection has now made its debut. The first of its kind from the designer, it was born from the sentiment that what you fill your surrounds with is just as important as what’s hanging in your wardrobe.

The collection, which spans cushions, blankets and towels, is crafted with timelessness in mind. More specifically, the timelessness of Paul’s trademark stripe, which has been reinterpreted across the products as a testament to the designer’s strong use of colour and meticulous attention to detail. Sustainability was also a key consideration in the creation of the product, and so, alongside traditional craft techniques like hand-embroidery, the collection makes use of materials like non-mulesed wool and Re:Down®, a recycled filler.

How you choose to decorate your home is as personal to any individual as what you choose to wear,” Paul explains. “With my new collection of pieces for the home I’ve tried to design items that bring some colour and joy, inspire you and never fail to put a smile on your face.

The Blankets

Never underestimate the effect of a good blanket. Are they words to live by? No, perhaps not, but a soft blanket can go a very long way to improving your surrounds, adding a splash of colour and comfort to your sofa – or even your desk chair at the office. Made using non-mulesed wool, a more ethical method of harvesting the fibre, Paul Smith’s new collection of blankets and throws reinterprets the designer’s famous stripe in a variety of ways. Two iterations are knitted from a sumptuous blend of cashmere and wool, while the third, a reversible style made from pure wool, has a unique faded edge. Just the thing for curling up after a long day with your favourite book.

The Cushions

Cushions (or throw pillows) are one of those things you either get – or don’t. And we know which camp we belong to. While they serve a primarily decorative purpose, that doesn’t mean they’re not without function: even if that function is primarily, we’ll admit, aesthetic. Sustainability was also particularly important in the creation of the Paul Smith cushion collection. So, as well as being crafted using time-honoured techniques, like crewel embroidery, a style of needlework that has been practiced for over 1000 years, they are filled with an innovative material Re:Down®, a filler made from recycled feathers that offers a sustainable solution without sacrificing an inch when it comes to comfort or quality.

The Towels

In an evolving age of self-care – one that, in addition to meditation apps and electronic water bottles, has begun to include all sorts of newfangled wellness tech like LED face masks and massage guns – it can be easy to forget the basics. Upgrading everyday essentials, like your towels, can make a world of difference to your day to day. Made from premium plush cotton-terry, Paul Smith’s new towel selection is the definition of modern luxury. They come in classic navy or white and are trimmed with the designer’s trademark stripe motif to add a dash of colour to your morning routine.
