Lights, Camera, Action:

The New Campaign

A cinematic campaign to match a cinematic collection. Defined by a mood of optimism, nostalgia and just a little bit (OK, a lot) of fun, the Paul Smith AW22 collection is here.

For anyone with a fondness for nice clothes and appreciates good style, it’s been a lacklustre couple of years when it comes to our personal wardrobes. With opportunities to dress up few and far between and a mass exodus from offices, at times, it has felt like our day-to-day uniforms have rarely expanded beyond sweatpants.

There is, of course, nothing wrong with putting comfort first or keeping things casual. But with the promise of events and holidays and parties once again on the horizon, there’s a particular joy in taking things up a sartorial notch: wearing a bold, printed dress or donning a statement suit. At least, we reckon, every once in a while.

Inspired by cinematic details, techniques and styles, the new Paul Smith AW22 campaign imagines a day spent on a movie set – both in front of and behind the camera. On duty and off duty, so to speak. Shot by photographer Johnny Dufort, known for his surrealist, authentic aesthetic, it documents a group of ‘actors’ ready for their close up as well as the antics they get up to when the camera isn’t rolling: striking a pose versus, for example, galivanting around the grounds.

Any screen-worthy wardrobe, naturally, includes a lot of colour and that’s no different here. A reference to the RGB (red, green, blue) colour model, the collection’s bright and bold palette is on full show, while strong silhouettes, including printed oversized knits, wintery shearling coats and, naturally, plenty of sharp tailoring also play a main role.

Optimism, then, as always, is high on the agenda at Paul Smith for AW22. And while we can’t promise any casting agents will be in touch, we can, perhaps, help your wardrobe play a starring role for the season.
