We’ve long believed that what you fill your home with says as much about you as what you choose to fill your wardrobe with – and that’s why our new collaboration with renowned Italian furniture brand DePadova, known for its understated and elevated take on design that marries function with form.

Spanning everything from sofas and armchairs to coffee tables and trays – and in the most recent release, water-repellent, quick-drying outdoor furniture – the collection is defined by its clean lines and clever use of colour. Paul Smith’s distinctive eye as well as DePadova’s singular understanding of modern luxury, is what characterises the selection, with discreet contrast stitching in a primary palette adding a dash of personality to pieces. Meanwhile, the coloured leather straps on the backs of upholstered pieces offer a subtle nod to the Paul Smith Signature Stripe.

"I have total and absolute respect for DePadova and its history,” Paul says. “I admire the uncompromising quality and functional aesthetics, so my touch is tucked in subtle and not-so-obvious details that present classic pieces in a new light.”

Then there’s fibres like hemp, which is cultivated from the cannabis sativa plant, and is durable enough that it doesn’t require herbicides or pesticides to grow. Aside from its eco-credentials, the unique texture it adds to fabrics is an added bonus.

There’re also a few lesser-known materials that have been put to good use, namely kapok, a lightweight cotton-like seed fibre. It grows spontaneously in tropical regions and is harvested by hand, meaning it is naturally organic and boasts an incredible array of benefits, including antimicrobial, hypoallergenic and insulating properties. For the garden and outdoor furniture, the pieces are made from water-repellent Tellaro, which is 100% polypropylene which means it does not retain any water, and a leather substitute which is rot-proof, resistant to fungus, hypoallergenic and non-toxic.

The same level of attention to detail has been paid to every other aspect of the designs, reflecting both brand’s inherent values and ethos. But while they might rise to the level of museum-worthy, these are not pieces made for display – as the name of the collection suggests, they’re crafted for everyday living. With just a dash of luxury.
